Large bottles are perfect for parties!

In 1978 Hank Wetzel produced our first vintage of Sin Zin and wine drinkers fell in love with the elegant, balanced flavors of Zinfandel from the Alexander Valley. Forty years later, Sin Zin is still charming fans with balance, elegance and rich spicy flavors.

Overall, 2017 was a vintage of contrasts. The ample rainfall in January and February allayed any talk of drought, but winter rains were followed by a warm spring and heat spikes throughout the summer. For the 2017 vintage, we harvested Zinfandel from eight vineyards in the southern Alexander Valley. Each lot was de-stemmed, fermented separately, and then aged in 25% new American oak barrels for 14 months.

This vintage shows great color, with a dark purple, red hue. There are spicy, earthy aromas of dark fruits, black cherry, black pepper, plum, and raspberry along with a touch of citrus.

Sin Zin is a California classic. This 2017 is a rich Zinfandel with flavors of black cherry, plum, black pepper, apricot and chocolate. The spicy finish really comes through as the wine sits in the glass, along with nuances of brown sugar and warm spices. This vintage has a nice, clean finish.

Label Artwork:

The Sin Zin label was one of the first whimsical labels approved by the ATF and at the time was considered rather risque'. When tasting samples of the first vintage, the family wanted to find an image that matched the lush flavors. Leafing through an old art history book, then Assistant Winemaker Dennis Hill came upon a captivating illustration, a seventeeth-century German etching, completed by Moritz von Schwind c. 1840 titled "Des Knabben Wunderhorn", meaning "The Horn of Plenty". The image looked perfect for a wine label, and its bacchanalian character inspired Co-Owner Katie Wetzel Murphy to name our rich lush wine - Sin Zin. The label was used on the first vintage in 1978 and the wine was given to friends and family.
