The top blend at our 35th annual blending competition!
The highlight of our annual spring bash at Alexander Valley Vineyards is when teams vie for the chance to create the winning blend that will become the new Wine Club Reserve. Holding a competition in 2020 was a challenge, but our staff members were determined to continue the tradition. The competition, while certainly different in 2020, was as fierce as ever. Ultimately, Team "AVV" prevailed and Robynn Chapman produced the blend for the 2019 Wine Club Reserve. Club members often compliment Robynn on her wine knowledge and winning this competition proved they are correct in their assessment!
The wine selected as champ is a blend of 50% Petite Sirah, 35% Zinfandel and 15% Petit Verdot. This well balanced creation was aged for 16 months in French and American oak. In the glass there are spicy aromas of black, cherry, vanilla, and oak along with fresh fruit flavors of blackberry, dried cherry, smooth tannins, and a chewy finish.
A beautiful effort indeed, created for our loyal Wine Club Members.
The wine is only sold to wine club members, visitors to the tasting room or online at avvwine.com.
